MICHIGAN- Abc7chicago.com reports that an SUV crashed into a school bus on Interstate 94 in Michigan on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at about 10:20 a.m. There were no students on the school bus at the time of thecrash. The bus had a flat tire, and a tow truck was on the scene. The driver of the tow truck was at the back of the bus when the crash occurred.*
The driver of the SUV crossed all of the lanes of traffic abruptly before driving onto the shoulder and striking the school bus.
The tow truck driver, Nader Chehadi, 42, was killed in the collision. Two people who had been on the buswere in the tow truck at the time of the accident and did not sustain anyinjuries.
The SUV had five occupants, all of whom suffered critical injuries. Four people inside, including three young children and the driver, were trapped in the SUV.
The children were taken to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, while the other occupants were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Chehadi was the father of two young children, ages 2 and five.
The driver of the SUV, Andre Edwards, 25, is reported to have been driving without a valid license. The three young children in the back of the SUV, ages 2, 4, and 5,were not using seatbelts and were not in safety seats when the collision occurred. Updates indicate that the 5-year-old is still in critical condition, the 4-year-old is in serious condition, and the 2-year-old is now stable. The driver is now in serious condition, while the adult passenger, 28-year-old Antionette Butler is still in critical condition.
Toxicology reports are going to be performed to determine whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
