BURNHAM, Ill. — A 21-year-old man died, and two others suffered critical injuries in a collision between a motorcycle and motor vehicle in the south suburban area of Burnham. Abc7news.com said that the crash occurred in the morning hours of Thursday, October 18, 2018. Officers from the Burnham Police Department have the matter under investigation.
Police said 21-year-old Kendall King was operating a motorcycle with the mother of his 2-year-old son on back Thursday when he collided with a Toyota and the intersection of 140th Street and Torrance Avenue. Medics transported Mr. King to Franciscan Health Hammond for trauma intervention but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile, his passenger, whom police did not name, suffered catastrophic injuries. Fortunately for her, she is conscious according to statements made by the passenger’s family. The hospital listed her in critical condition.
Two people were in the black Toyota struck by the motorcycle. The passenger of Toyota was severely injured in the crash, and the hospital listed that individual in critical condition as well. The operator of the car hit by the Toyota was reportedly uninjured.
Police did not indicate who may have been at fault for the crash nor did they report precisely how the collision between the motorcycle and Toyota happened. The crash investigation is a joint effort between the Illinois State Police and the Major Accidents Team responsible for investigating accidents in the South Suburban area of Chicago. Investigators have not issued any charges up to this point.
Mr. King’s relatives mourn his loss. A relative told the media that his nephew was a hardworking young man who dearly loved his son and had a bright future. Mr. King reportedly worked at a nursing home every day. Mr. King’s uncle said that Mr. King was a “great father” to his boy. There was no information available about the prognosis of the other injured parties.
