BEACH PARK, IL- Nbcchicago.com writes that a 19-year-old woman drove her vehicle into a house on Saturday morning, December 29, 2018, at about 2 a.m. The woman, who is from Waukegan, is thought to have been drunk when she veered off of Yorkhouse Road and crashed her 2007 Chrysler Sebring into the house causing serious damage to both the car and the home.*
The home was unoccupied at the time of theaccident, andthe woman was the only person in the vehicle. The driver was able to exit her vehicle and walk to a nearby house where she was able to get help. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she wastreated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The home sustained such severe damage that it is now uninhabitable.
John Idleburg, the Lake County Sheriff, stated that alcohol and driving “don’t mix,” and reminded drivers that they should never drink alcohol before getting behind the wheel.Driving drunk puts everyone on the road at risk.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) write that about one out of every five teenagers involved in a fatal car crash had alcohol in their system. When teens do drive drunk, they were often binge drinking, meaning that they consumed 5 or more drinks within a period of a couple of hours. While the rate of drunk driving among teenagers fell by 54 percent since 1991, about 2.4 million times every month, high school teenagers get behind the wheel after drinking.
While the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration is .08 percent, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drive with anyamount of alcohol in their system.
