Bounce House Accident Injures Four in Rockford, Illinois

Rockford, Illinois – October 20, 2018 – NBC Chicago reports that four people were hospitalized after an unusual accident involving a bounce house and a utility pole. High winds blew the bounce house over, and it rolled over a few times before it collided with a utility pole and knocked the pole down. The accident injured four people who were in the bounce house. The injuries do not seem to be life-threatening.

Bounce houses are fun, and in recent years they have become a fixture at birthday parties and special events. There are even bounce houses marketed to consumers as outdoor play products for everyday use. Unfortunately, bounce house accidents are not uncommon. The most common bounce house injuries, bumps, scrapes, and bruises, are precisely what you might expect to happen when multiple people are bouncing around close to each other in a contained space. However, some bounce house accidents have caused severe and even fatal injuries to adults and children alike.

One of the risks associated with bounce houses is the risk of suffocation. If a person becomes trapped inside of the inflatable structure as it deflates, they may be unable to breathe. Accidents like the one mentioned above, where a gust of wind breaks a bounce house free from its stakes and sends it tumbling away can and do happen. While the addition of a downed utility pole makes the accident mentioned above a bit more unusual, the occurrence of injuries that require hospitalization is a common result of wind-related bounce house accidents. Airborne bounce houses have sent people tumbling out onto the ground from heights that caused them to receive traumatic head injuries and broken bones. Other bounce houses have collided with trees and power lines, causing head injuries, fractures, lacerations, broken bones, and other injuries.
