FOX LAKE, IL- writes that two individuals were hospitalized after a single-vehicle collision on Monday night, December 10, 2018. The crash shut down Route 12 for around two hours. The fire department was called to the scene at about 8 p.m.*

Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle “being driven erratically at high rates of speed” prior to the crash. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a telephone pole, overturned and ended up in between two homes. A live wire was knocked down and fell across the roadway.

One individual was transported to the Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment while the other was transported to the Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. The two victims did not sustain injuries that were considered life-threatening.

The roadway opened again at about 10:15 p.m.

Terry Chase told reports that he heard noises outside of his home and went outside to see the vehicle on his property. The vehicle was on fire, andChasse got a fire extinguisher which he used to put the fire out.

Chasse said that the driver said that he had been drinking and that the man was screaming. Chasse said that he was happy that the vehicle occupants survived the crash and described the scene likesomething out of a movie.

Speeding is a factor in about 90 percent of all run-off-the-road crashes. Other contributing factors include drinking and driving, which is more often a factor in single-vehicle collisions than it is in multiple vehicle collisions, drowsy driving, or distracted driving. These types of crashes are often deadly. In fact, about 20 percent of all people killed in vehicle collisions are killed in single-vehicle accidents.
