Crash on Interstate 88 Severely Injures Naperville Man

NAPERVILLE, IL- The chicagotribune.com reports that a man from Naperville was hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash that was caused by a semi-truck. The crash took place on September 5, 2018,at about 6:15 p.m. when a westbound semi-truck struck the back of an SUV and another vehicle on I-88 close to Route 59. The driver of the SUV, 46-year-old Deejay Singh was injured in the collision. The driver of the truck and the occupant of the other vehicle were not injured.

Singh was transported to Edward Hospital. Within hours of the crash, Singh posted a photo and wrote a message on Facebook expressing his thanks to emergency responders and other motorists who had helped pull him out of the wreckage.

Singh was the only person injured in the collision. The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old man from Louisville, Kentucky was issuedcitationsfor “improper lane usage and driving too fast for conditions.”

Accidents involving large trucks often cause injuries to people traveling in smaller vehicles. Trucks are far heavier than passenger vehicles and are more difficult to maneuver. Because of their massive size, semi-trucks can take up to 20 to 40 percent longer to stop than cars and other smaller vehicles. Truck drivers can sometimes be at risk for causing accidents because of driver fatigue. Laws permit truck drivers to drive for up to 11 hours straight. Many drivers admit to violating the law and driving longer than 11 hours in a rowas well, making fatigue a major issue.

Younger truck drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents. Truckers in their 20s have a higher rate of both fatal and non-fatal trucking accidents.
