Detroit Police Cruiser and Ambulance Collide Causing Serious Injuries

Detroit — A Detroit police officer with lights and siren activated collided with an ambulance carrying a patient while driving with its lights and siren on. The massive impact caused the ambulance to roll over while the cruiser slammed into a nearby house. Although all persons involved were injured, none of the injuries were listed as life-threatening, andall are suspected to survive. The terrible crash happened around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, according to ClickOnDetroit.Detroit accident reconstruction detectives have the matter under investigation.

Detroit Police will examine the officer’s dashboard camera with the expectation itwill provide vital information to help them learn why one of their officers went through an intersection while responding to a call and slammed into an ambulance transporting a patient. Both emergency vehicles had their emergency lights and sirens activated when they collided in the intersection of Chicago Boulevard and Linwood Street in Detroit’s Boston-Edison neighborhood. The emergency vehicles were not responding to the same call for service according to police.

Everyone involved in the crash was lucky to survive this dramatic wreck. The ambulance rolled over on its driver’s side upon impact with the police vehicle. A photograph taken at the scene by media shows the front-end of the rescue unit ripped off, the airbag deployed, and the windshield smashed open, ostensibly to free the driver. Meanwhile, the police car collided with a porch belonging to a home nearby. No one in the homereported suffering any injuries.

Police, fire, and additional rescue personnel flooded the scene. The police officers involved in the crash, the emergency medical technicians, and the patient all received emergency transport to a local hospital. Doctors anticipate that all will survive their injuries. The hospital listed the victims and in stable or temporarily seriouscondition.

The Detroit police are still investigating.
