Dog Attack Sends Child To Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — A dog attacked a ten-month-old baby in Knox County, Ohio in the mid-morning hours of Monday, November 12, 2018, according to abc22now.com.  The dog that attacked the baby is said to be the family dog. Knox County law enforcement officerscontinue to investigate the incident. Officers have not pressed any charges in the caseas of this point. The baby is expected to survive.

Local police said that the dog attack incident occurred on Jackson Street in Mount Vernon. Neighbors told police and the media that they were concerned about the way the dog, suspected to be a pit bull, interacted with the ten-month-oldbaby girl. Neighbors said the dog would jump all over the infant and anyone else that visited the home. Another neighbor described the dog as acting “hyper.” Family members of the child denied that the dog acted that way. Additionally, police would not confirm the breed of the dog.

The police said the child’sinjuries were not life-threatening. Those comments seem to contradict what people saw. Witnesses described the first responders as performing CPR on the baby before a helicopter transported her to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Nationwide Children’s Hospital is located in Columbus, Ohio.

The Knox County animal control officersseized and impounded the dog. The dog is currently in the Knox County Animal Control facility. Neither police nor animal control representatives would say what might happen to the dog. Police did say that the case is still an active investigation. The police also said that they are not close to determining whether anyone in the home should face criminal charges stemming from the mauling of their baby girl.

There was no update on the physical status of the baby. She is expected to survive the injuries she suffered in the attack.
