Driver from Illinois Killed in Crash with Semi Truck on I-70 in Little Point, Indiana

LITTLE POINT, IN- Bannergraphic.com reports that a man from Illinois was killed in a collision on Friday, August 17, 2018,at around 8:15 p.m. According to police, the driver was operating a passenger van and traveling east on Interstate 70. Five people were in the van at the time of the crash.A truck traveling in front of the van slowed down, andthe van failed to slow in time to avoid crashing into the back ofthe truck, which was pullinga box trailer. The driver attempted to steer the 2009 Chryslercan to the right of the truck, but was unable to avoid the collision.

The victim was identified as Shane Oakley, 43, of Greenup, IL. The Morgan County Deputy Coroner, Scott Kelly, pronounced Oakley dead at the scene of the crash. The passengers in the van included Oakley’s wife, Tonya W. Oakley, the couple’s daughters, Shaina Oakley, 21, andJazzmin Oakley, 16, and another teenager, Hayden Kanizer, 19. All of the passengers were taken to the Methodist Hospital. Kanizer is reportedly in critical condition after suffering head and neck injuries. The other three passengers sustained only minor injuries.

The two people traveling in the truck, the driver, 28-year-old Sukhkaran S. Sidhu and a passenger, did not sustain any injuries.

Reports indicate that the eastbound lanes of I-70 had been slowed down because of a disabled truck when the crash occurred. Following the collision, the eastbound lanes were shut down until after 12 a.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
