DECATUR- Foxillinois.com reports that a severe collision occurred in Decatur at about 11:58 a.m. on September 5, 2018. Two cars collided at the intersection of Sangamon Road and Reas Bridge Road. Following the initial crash, one of the vehicles collided with a pickup truck.
One of the cars was driven by an 87-year-old woman from Oakley, andthe other vehicle was driven by a 42-year-old woman from Cerro Gordo. According to reports, the 87-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was making a left turn onto Sangamon while the other driver was traveling eastbound on Reas Bridge Road. The vehicles crashed in the intersection and then one of the cars hit the pickup truck, which was stopped on Sangamon Road.
The crash caused life-threatening injuries to the 87-year-old woman. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. The 42-year-old woman was also hurt in the crash and was hospitalized. The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.
The scene of the crash was investigated by the Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
Intersections only make up a small portion of roadways, and yet they are the site of a large percentage of car accidents in the United States.
