Drivers run red lights more than many people realize. One traffic study found that drivers travel through red traffic lights about once every 20 minutesor three times every hour. Driver acknowledgesthat running a red light is extremely dangerous, but many still engage in this action.
It is important that drivers exercise caution and safe driving practices while behind the wheel, but studies have indicated that changing driver behavior is extremely difficult. There are ways to reduce the number of traffic accidents at intersections, including designing better intersections, such as roundabouts, which have far fewer crashes.
