Four Seriously Injured, Including Two Children, in Little Village Crash

CHICAGO, IL- Wgntv.com writes that four people suffered serious injuries in a collision in Little Village on Sunday, December 23, 2018. The incident took place at about 7:30 in the evening on South Marshall Boulevard and Cermak Road.*

The accident involved a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 26-year-old man and an Oldsmobile Alero. The Alero was turning onto Marshall at the time of the crash.

Two children, ages 3 and 10, were in theAlero. Both of the children suffered severe injuries and were taken to the Stroger Hospital. A 68-year-old woman was also in the Alero and was taken to the Mount Sinai Hospital where she was reportedly in critical condition.

The person driving the Alero was also transported to Stroger Hospital and was in serious condition.

The man driving the Toyota attempted to flee the scene of the crash. He was later stopped by police and arrested. The crash is still under investigation.

Intersection accidents are often severe and frequently involve one vehicle violating a traffic signalsuch as a red light or stop sign. In many cases, a driver might stop at a stop sign, and then proceed when it is not safe to do so, but in some instances, drivers completely run through intersections and cause serious crashes.

Vehicles are not designed to take a lot of impact on their sides. Even side airbags only offer limited protection because there is simply not much space between the side of a vehicle and the vehicle occupants. The number of serious crashes that occur each year could be greatly reduced if there were less traditional intersections and more roundabouts.
