WAUKEGAN, Illinois — The Libertyville Patch reports that a woman killed a husband and wife ina drunk driving crash. The accident transpired at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018, in Waukegan. The police arrested the suspected drunk driver who is held in jail for failing to post bond. Two additional motor vehicles were involved in the crash, but the drivers of those vehicles were not hurt.
According to the Chicago Tribune’s Lake County News Section, about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening police received calls for a massive car crash at the intersection of Grand Avenueand Baldwin Avenue in Waukegan. The preliminary police investigationindicates that 39-year-old LetisiaC. Delgadillo ran a red light while traveling in a westerly direction on Grand Avenue and slammed into a car occupied by a 42-year-old Waukegan man who was the driver and a 41-year-old woman also living in Waukegan. They were driving on Baldwin Avenue and had the right of way when Delgadillo struck them. The impact forced the vehicles to collide with two other carsat the intersection. Those drivers were not hurtin the crash. Delgadillo’scar pushed the decedents’ vehicle approximately70 feet. Police declined to name any of the victims of the drunk driving incident.
Rescue personnel took Delgadillo to a local hospitalwhere doctors took her blood for analysis. Officials said that her blood alcohol concentration was about twice the legal limit. During a police interview, Delgadillo allegedly told police that she was trying to beat a yellow light when she entered the intersection.
The Lake County Coroner’sOffice stated that both victims died from blunt trauma to their bodies. Police say that all occupants, including the deceased, werewearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Delgadillo remains innocent untilproven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
