YORKVILLE, IL- Wspynews.com writes that a collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck sent two Plano residents to the hospital. The Yorkville Police responded to a crash at about 9:12 a.mz at Route 47 and Baseline Road on Monday, November 26, 2018.
The early police reports indicate that the driver of the pickup truck, Jesus Mendez, 31, of Plano, disobeyed a traffic light at the intersection. Mendez received a citation for “Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License.” Mendez and Emilio Mendez, 59, also of Plano, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, were both taken to the Rush Copley Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 37-year-old man from Chicago, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Intersection accidents are common across the United States. Studies have indicated that the common intersection design seen across the country is not the safest design for vehicle occupants or pedestrians. Research has found many other potential alternatives to traditional intersections. Roundabouts, for instance, are much better at preventing collisions from taking place.

The work is demonstrative of a shift in thinking. People are no longer treating traffic deaths as an inevitable tragedy and are instead working to take responsibility for making roads safer.
