LINCOLNWOOD, Illinois — The suntimes.com report that the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office issued a statement saying that a 61-year-old man died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, after getting caught between an SUV and a drilling machine. The Chicago Sun-Times stated that Lincolnwood is a suburban community situated to the north of Chicago. Local police did not provide any additional information about the tragic accident.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office issued a press release saying that 61-year-old Steven Raymond Kuhn died when he became trapped between an SUV and a drilling machine. The autopsy performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Mr. Kuhn died as a result of numerous internal injuries from being crushed. The Medical Examiner’s office declared that Mr. Kuhn’s death was an accident.
The Medical Examiner’s Office provided limited details about the incident other than those mentioned. They did say that medical personnel rushed Mr. Kuhn to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston from the location of the incident which was noted to be in the 6700 blockof Keating Avenue in Lincolnwood. Unfortunately, efforts to resuscitate Mr. Kuhn were futile, andhospital staff pronounced him deceased within sixty minutes of his arrival.
Regrettably, the Lincolnwood Police Department did not reply to media requests for information. The police would have responded to the scene and started an investigation given the severity of the incident.
The lack of details about the accident raises numerous questions. Hopefully within the coming weeksinvestigators will be able to determine whether the drilling machine was operating at the time of the injury.Additional questions arise about how Mr. Kuhn became trapped. At this time it is not evident whetherMr. Kuhn was working in the area or was a pedestrian who mistakenly walked between the SUV and machine. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration would investigate if the deathwas a workplace accident.
