JOSEPH, Missouri — A man from Skokie, Illinois died in a two-car crash in Royalton Township, Missouri according to heraldpalladium.com. Police say neither driver wore a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The fatal collision happened around 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018, on I-94.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office reported that the deadlycrash transpired between a 2013 Chrysler van and a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The incident occurred just on the bridge and concluded just beyond the bridge on I-94 spanning the St. JosephRiver, around Exit 27, between Niles Road and Scottdale Road exits. The man who died, Myles Ullenbrauck, 56, was driving the Chrysler van. The driver of the Jeep, 29-year-old Stephen Byers, from St. Joseph, MO suffered significant injuries. Ambulance personnel transported Byers to Lakeland Medical Center, in St. Joseph.
The Royalton Township fire chief described the crash. He stated that the initial contact between the two vehicles started at the beginning of the eastbound span of the bridge passing over the St. Joseph river and continued for approximately one-quarter of a mile before the vehiclescame to rest. The fire chief indicated that skid marks started at the western end of the bridge and led all the way across to the other side.
The fatal crash tied up traffic for a substantial length of time. Law enforcement officers needed to shut down the road for three hours while they performed an accidentreconstruction analysis of the scene. Officers rerouted cars from I-94 onto local roads where other officers directed traffic to keep the flow of cars moving.
Police have not disclosed the cause of the accident. Furthermore, law enforcement officers have not made any arrests in connection with the fatality. Accident reconstruction officers will examine the speed of the cars when they collided, and where the primary point of contact took place among other data. After analyzing the data, the accident reconstruction officers may be able to determine who caused the crash.
