WAUKEGAN, Il— A man is dead after being involved in a head-on vehicle crash in Waukegan. The fatal crash happened in the early evening hourson Thursday, August 23, 2018,according to the Libertyville Patch. Police may issue criminal charges in the incident. They were awaiting the results of toxicology reports. Police did issuea civil citation to one driver for improper lane usage. The case remains under investigation.
This tragic incident was one of the rare instances when wearing a seatbelt did not make a difference to the man who died. The preliminary police investigation revealed that officers received a call for emergency services due to a severe car accident around 7 p.m. The accident reportedly happened on York House Road at East End Avenue. When police arrived on scene, they immeduately attended to a70-year-old man wearing his seatbelt trapped in his 2000 Ford Mustang. The driver of the Mustang was heading easterly on York House Road.
Emergency services personnel managed to free the man trapped in his car and get him to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the driver expired at the hospital. The Waukegan Police Department did not release the man’s name until they were able to notify his next of kin.
The investigating officers found another vehicle involved in the crash. The car is a 2018 Dodge Challenger. The driver of the Challenger was headed westerly on York House Road. Police formed an initial opinion that the driver of the Challenger crossed over the center line in the road and collided with the Mustang.
All three occupants of the Challenger suffered minor injuries. Hospital personnel treated and released them the same night. The driver of the Challenger is a male in his sixties according to police. A woman and a female teen were in the Challenger as well. All hail from Alaska.
There is no word regarding the return of the toxicology reports. The investigation continues.
