NAPERVILLE, IL- Kwqc.com reports that a crash on Interstate 88 injured multiple people on Sunday, August 19, 2018. The crash took place near mile marker 123 a little before 11 a.m.
According to Illinois State Police, the collision was the result of a truck that failed to reduce its speed and rear-ended a Nissan. The Nissan and two other vehicles were driving at a slow speed or stopped when the truck smashed into the back of the Nissan. The Nissan was pushed into the back of a Lexus, which crashed into a Chevrolet.
An 11-year-old child was a passenger in the Nissan at the time and sustained severe injuries. The child and the driver of the Lexus were both taken to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated.
Motor vehicle accidents involving one car or vehicle pushing another car into other vehicles are fairly common. These accidents often include one driver who was not paying attention, but several other vehicles are drawn into the crash because of the force of the first car. These are referred to as chain reaction crashes. Sometimes the rear driver is not entirely at fault. For instance, the car in front of the back driver may have stopped abruptly or slammed on their breaks leaving little time for the driver behind them to stop. Of course, in many situations, the collision may be the result of multiple drivers failing to stay alert behind the wheel. These situations can, therefore, create difficult scenarios for insurers and for lawsuits filed to determine legal liability for injuries and property damage.
