The construction industry accounts for a large number ofwork-related fatalities. In 2016, 21.2 percent of work-relateddeaths in privateindustry occurred within the construction industry. Across the United States, 4,693 work-related fatalities were reported, and991 of those occurred in construction. If the construction industry could eliminate deaths from falls, workers being struck by objects, electrocutions and “caught-in/between” accidents, OSHA estimates that about 631 American lives would be saved annually.
