DECATUR, Ill. — A man standing on a sidewalk was hit by a truck and died of his injuries. The fatal collision happened on North 24th Street at the intersection of Eldorado Street around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. The man perished from his injuries around 12:30 p.m. at a local hospital Fox Illinois reported. Decatur Police Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation team responded and launched an investigation. The inquiry is not complete at this time.
The Macon County Coroner announced that the male pedestrian, later identified as Larry C. Williams, 48, from Decatur, died from forceful trauma to his head and torso as a result of being run down. Decatur police investigators announced that upon arrival at the scene of the incident, officers learned that a 55-year-old man driving a full-size pickup truck lost control of his vehicle went off of the road and struck Mr. Williams as Mr. Williams stood on the sidewalk in the vicinity of North 24th and East Eldorado Streets.
Police also learned that the driver of the pickup truck was driving easterly around the 2300 block of East Eldorado when he lost control of the truck. The pickup left the south side of the road and traveled through several yards on the south side of East Eldorado. The driver was unable to regain control over the truck and collided with Mr. Williams.
First responders from Decatur Ambulance service transported Mr. Williams to a nearby hospital where physicians declared him deceased shortly after arrival. The pickup truck driver sustained no injuries in the wreck.
Decatur police closed North 24th Street to all vehicular traffic and closed one eastbound lane of East Eldorado to conduct their investigation.
Police have not released their findings from their investigation, which remains ongoing. No arrests were made at the scene of the accident.
