Pedestrian Killed in Round Lake Beach, Illinois on October 24, 2018

Round Lake Beach, Illinois – October 24, 2018 – The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a sixty-seven-year-old man was hit by a vehicle as he walked his bicycle across Route 83 in Round Lake Beach. He died from injuries he received in the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

In 2015, nearly eight thousand pedestrians were injured in Illinois. During that same year, one hundred and fifty people died in pedestrian accidents. The overwhelming majority of Illinois pedestrian deaths occur on urban roads. One hundred and twenty-five of the one hundred and fifty Illinois pedestrian fatalities that happened in 2015 occurred on urban streets, while only twenty-five happened on rural roads. Pedestrian accident deaths in Illinois followed a pattern of increasing in number with the age of the victim. For example, fourteen people between the ages of twenty and twenty-five died in pedestrian crashes in 2015, and there were thirty pedestrian fatalities where the victims were age sixty-five or older.
