October 9, 2018 – NBC Chicago reports that a pregnant woman has died after being struck by a vehicle as she and another person tried to push her disabled car out of the roadway. The accident happened in northwest Streamwood, at around seven thirty in the evening.
A family friend had received a call from the woman a few minutes before the fatal crash happened. During the phone call, the woman explained to her friend that her car had stalled out in the roadway and that she needed help pushing it to the side. After making the phone call, the woman and her cousin got out of the stalled vehicle and began to push it. As the two pushed the car, a pickup truck crashed into the rear end of the car. During the collision, the pregnant woman received injuries that were so severe that she died as the result of the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident.
This tragic wreck is a reminder of just how much danger the occupants of vehicles experience when their car breaks down, or they are involved in an accident. If you feel your vehicle beginning to stall while you are driving, turn on your four-way flashers and look for an opportunity to pull off to the side of the road if you can do so safely. When your vehicle is stopped, whether in the travel lanes or off to the side, call 911 for help. Stay in your car, with your seat belt fastened, and ask others in the vehicle to do the same. If you must leave your vehicle due to fire, do so carefully, looking out for traffic, and go as far away from the vehicle as you can.
