Teenager form Franklin Charged in Crash That Injured 5 in Niles, Illinois

NILES, IL- The chicagotribune.com reported that a teenage boy is facing charges after driving an allegedly stolen vehicle and causing a chain-reaction collision that involved six vehicles. The 17-year-old is now facing charges for his role in the collision. He will be tried in juvenile court.

The police reports indicate that the suspect is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. The crash tookplace on November 8, 2018,at a little after 10 in the morning at the intersection of Oconto Avenue and Oakton Street.*

The teen had already been cited for 10 different violations including disregarding a stop sign, driving without a valid license, driving without a seatbelt, and driving with more than one passenger under the age of 20.

The suspect was traveling in a Volkswagen SUV. The vehicle had been reported as stolen from a location in Chicago. The teen drove through a stop sign while traveling north on Oconto and struck a Chrysler 300 that was eastbound. The force caused the Chrysler to then hit another vehicle.

The teen continued traveling north and hit another two vehicles before it flipped over onto its side and then slid until it hit the sixth vehicle.

The suspect sustained severe injuries in the collision.He was taken to the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment and was not capable of speaking to investigating officers directlyfollowing the accident. There were two teens in the vehicle with the suspect, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year old girl. Both of the passengers also suffered injuries as did two drivers who were in other vehicles. All were taken to nearby hospitals.
