Traffic Accident in West Garfield Park

West Garfield Park Accident Leaves Six People Injured, Including Two Police Officers

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – As reported online by the Chicago Sun Times, a three-vehicle accident in West Garfield Park left six people injured, including two police officers.*

At around 5:00 p.m. on April 13, 2019, two Chicago police officers were traveling south on Kenton Avenue in an unmarked vehicle when they were struck by a vehicle traveling west on Washington Boulevard. The impact of this initial collision caused the unmarked police vehicle to strike a third vehicle.  According to the Chicago Police Department, the unmarked police vehicle had its emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the three-vehicle accident.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, both Chicago police officers were transported to Stroger Hospital (a Rush University hospital) for treatment.  The condition of the two officers following the accident is unknown.  Two additional victims injured in the accident were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, while the remaining two victims injured in the accident were transported to Loretto Hospital in good condition.

Whether anyone faces criminal charges related to the three-vehicle accident is unknown.  An in-depth investigation should uncover what caused this horrific accident to happen.
