MANTENO- Daily-journal.com reports that a man from Manteno was killed in a head-on collision on Thursday, August 16, 2018. The victim was identified as Jeremiah T. Spainhour. Illinois State Police reported that Spainhour was traveling north on U.S. 45/52 at about 7:39 a.m. when he seems to have veered across the center line of the road and into oncoming traffic.
Spainhour was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima, andit hit the back tires of a tractor-trailerdriven by a 47-year-old man from Forrest. Spainhour was rushed to the Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee where he was declared dead.

When truck drivers or passengers in large trucks are killed, it is most often in accidents that involve multiple large trucks, but truck occupants are also sometimes killed in single-vehicle crashes as trucks have a higher risk of rolling over thanany passenger vehicles.
About 50 percent of fatal truck accidents involve a smaller vehicle underriding a truck. In these accidents, cars or SUVs can become wedged beneath a truck or trailer.
