Woman Dies Several Days After Sustaining Injuries in Chicago, Illinois

CHICAGO — The Chicago Sun-Times reported that a woman who was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the street in the Englewood section on the South Side of Chicago on November 3, 2018, has died. The Cook County Coroner’s Office released the pedestrian’s cause of death. The Chicago police continue to investigate the case and may issue criminal charges for vehicular homicide now that the victim perished.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office released a statement indicating that 61-year-old Englewood resident Yezeall Dishmon died in the morning hours of Tuesday, November 13, 2018. The post-mortem investigation revealed that Ms. Dishmon died from complications stemming from numerous injuries she sustained in the accident.

Ms. Dishmon clung to life for about 10 days after the accident. Chicago police accident investigators say that a male motorist, whom police declined to name, drove his car into Ms. Dishmon as she tried to cross West 71st Street. Ms. Dishmon was trying to cross West 71st somewhere in the 1700 block. Witnesses say that Ms. Dishmon stepped into the road from between two parked cars and then was hit by the male driver going easterly on West 71st Street. Police say that Ms. Dishmon only lived a few blocks away from the scene of the accident.

Chicago police investigators issued the male driver two citations. The information the Police Department gave to the press did not state why the driver received the citations. The citations could have been for any number of reasons and not necessarily related to driving behavior that ledto the crash. However, that driver could now face criminalprosecution because Ms. Dishmon died from the injuries she sustained in the crash. There was no information concerning whether criminal chargesmight issue.

Police did say that alcohol was not a factor contributing to the accident. The Chicago police continue to investigate the accident.
