MISSOURI- The dailyjournalonline.com writes that a woman from Illinois suffered injuries in a crash that took place on Monday, November 26, 2018.
The crash took place at about 12:25 a.m.when the woman drove her 2000 Toyota Sienna off the roadway. The victim was identified as Chelsea Johnson, 23 of Dallas City, Illinois. Johnson was traveling westbound on Route Y when she veered off the right side of the road and then attempted to correct. The vehicle then skidded and traveled off the left side of the road where it struck a “fence, embankment, utility pole and utility pole guide wire.” The Sienna flipped over onto its side.
Johnson suffered serious injuries in the incident and was transported to the Mercy Hospital-South for treatment.
Rollover crashes are defined as any crash in which a vehicle tips to its side or flips over all the way. Rollovers occur in a low percentage oftotalcar accidents, but they cause around one out of every three traffic accident deaths. Out of 23,973 vehicle occupants killed in collisions in 2016, 7,488 were killed in rollover crashes. One thing that makes these collisions more dangerous is that occupants are often ejected from their vehicles in the course of rollover crashes.
A person’s chances of surviving a rollover crash are far higher when they use their seatbelt. Seatbelts prevent vehicle occupants from being ejected in a crash and from coming in contact with the roof of a vehicle. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) writes that 67 percent of people who died in rollover crashes in 2016 were not using their seat belts.
