The car traveling in the appropriate direction was a taxicab with two fares. Illinois State Police accident reconstruction investigators are diligently pouring over the evidence obtained from the crash scene. They are also looking at autopsy records, as well as toxicology reports to determine how this devastating accident happened and why.

According to NBC 5 Chicago, the crash occurred on Saturday morning around 4:20 a.m. on Interstate-55. Authorities said that the wrong way driver slammed head-on into a taxi in the southbound lanes. Illinois State Police pinpointed the location of the crash as the middle lane of the southbound side of I-55 at Kedzie Avenue.
