WOOD RIVER, IL. – After being airlifted to a nearby hospital, a 69-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, has died of injuries sustained in a vehicle crash on Illinois Route 3. The story is reported by riverbender.com.
At approximately 1 p.m. on June 13, an SUV was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 3. A commercial box truck traveling westbound attempted to cross Illinois Route 3 from the Amoco Cut-Off and drove into the path of the SUV. The two vehicles collided just south of Illinois Route 143. The SUV struck the passenger side of the box truck near its rear wheels.
The driver of the box truck and a passenger in the box truck, both of whom have not been identified, were not injured in the crash. The driver and one passenger in the SUV, who have also not been identified, were transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital. A second passenger in the SUV, identified as a 69-year-old man from East St. Louis, Missouri, was airlifted to an area hospital. He later died of his injuries, according to Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells.
The Wood River Fire Department, Alton Memorial Hospital EMS, the Wood River Police Department, the Hartford Police Department, the Roxana Police Department, and the South Roxana Police Department were among those who responded to the scene of the crash. Local authorities, including Wood River Police, are still investigating the collision and have not released additional information at this time. It is not clear whether anyone will be cited or charged in connection with the accident.
